L.A County Issues Updated Travel Testing and Quarantine Guidance
The L.A. County Department of Public Health recently updated its Travel Advisory and Guidance to fully align with guidelines issued by the CDC:
Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine upon return from domestic or international travel, regardless of your travel destination. Testing 3-5 days upon your return home is recommended. You should self-isolate if any symptoms develop before you get tested or while you await your test results.
Individuals who are not fully vaccinated should quarantine upon return from domestic or international travel. It is recommended that you test for COVID-19 3-5 days after your return; even if you test negative, you should remain in quarantine for 7 full days. If you do not test upon your return, you should quarantine for 10 days.

Travel Quarantine Guidelines
- If possible, get tested before you leave the airport with a rapid test. If negative, test again in 3 - 5 days.
- Quarantine for 7 days (even if you are negative). If you do not get tested, quarantine for 10 days.
- Watch for symptoms for 14 days. If you develop symptoms, self-isolate and get tested right away. Additional information may be found here.
- If you test positive, isolate for 10 days and contact the COVID Support Team. Follow isolation instructions here.
The L.A. County Travel Advisory and Guidance now requires that all travelers, regardless of vaccination status, departing on flights from foreign countries to the United States present proof of a negative viral test taken 1 day prior to the departure of the flight to the United States. This change shortens the testing window for fully vaccinated travelers from 3 days to 1 day prior to entering the U.S.
Even if not required by the airline or your destination, all travelers should now consider getting a COVID-19 viral test 1-3 days before departure from Los Angeles, and only proceed with travel if your test is negative.
