Daily Update With Staff Remote Work Information
03.14.20
LMU continues to monitor the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and is working diligently to safeguard the safety and well-being of our community. Please visit LMU’s Coronavirus Website for the latest information and guidance.
Online Instruction Delayed to March 23, 2020
Provost Poon announced to students and faculty that the university will delay the start of online instruction by one week to Monday, March 23. There will be no instruction March 16-20 to provide faculty with additional time to transition courses online and students and their families time to focus on moving out of residence halls. Read the letter for further information.
Campus Operations
Our campuses are operating with limited services.
- LMU Westchester Main Campus: Operations are reduced to essential services.
- LMU Playa Vista Campus: LMUPVC is closed except to faculty and staff with access.
- LMU Loyola Law School Campus: Operations will be reduced. Members of the LMU Loyola Law school community will receive additional guidance shortly.
Staff to Remain Home
We encourage staff to remain at home the week of March 16, except for those who support essential services where on-campus presence is required (see list below). For example, areas critical to student move out and online instruction support should report to campus as appropriate or consult with supervisors for direction. We are taking these steps to limit the potential spread of COVID-19 and to address conflicts and impacts to staff by school, childcare, and other closures. All staff will be paid without using sick or vacation leave by using a new option in MYTIME called “COVID Leave.” Human Resources will share more comprehensive guidelines next week.
The following areas have been identified as essential services to next week’s operations. This list is not exhaustive, so you may receive additional instructions from your area’s leadership: Facilities Management, Information Technology Services, LMU Radio, Mail Distribution Center, Payroll, Public Safety, and the Division of Student Affairs. LMU Loyola Law School will receive detailed information from their Dean’s Office.
COVID-19 Updates
The university was notified this afternoon that a community member tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is currently self-isolating off-campus and other community members who have been in close contact with this individual have been informed and are self-quarantined. We have consulted with L.A. County Department of Public Health and are following their guidance. Due to spring break, we believe potential community exposure has been very limited. If you are sick or exhibiting symptoms, please do not visit campus. Please seek guidance from your healthcare provider. Enhanced cleaning and sanitization of buildings and common spaces continues throughout our campuses. We will keep the community apprised of appropriate updates. For more information on coronavirus, visit the CDC website.
Student Housing Exception Petitions
Petitions for exceptions to the student housing move-out date of Sunday, March 22, 2020, will be reviewed by the Dean of Students office and granted on an individual basis. Residents petitioning to remain in student housing must submit petitions by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Students who have submitted a Housing Petition to remain will be notified of the decision by Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at noon. Residents approved to continue living in university housing for the remainder of the semester will be housed in university apartments, one per bedroom, to facilitate appropriate social distancing. Students may access the petition form via MyLMU-->Campus Life-->Student Housing Online Services-->Student Housing Online Services-->Application Forms.
Student Affairs Updates
The Division of Student Affairs realizes that this is a very challenging time for all students and shares important information regarding Student Housing, Student Employment, Student Psychological Services, and more here.
Day of Giving Postponed
As the world faces uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic and after careful consideration, the university will postpone One LMU Drive until April 16, 2020. Thanks to our faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and donors for their support and generosity thus far; we believe this year’s Day of Giving will be our best ever.
