Health & Wellness

Traveling abroad is an exciting adventure that offers academic growth, cultural immersion, and personal transformation. Amid the thrill of new experiences, it’s essential to prioritize your health and wellness. The pursuit of knowledge should never come at the cost of your physical, mental, or emotional well-being. As you navigate new classrooms and cultures, remember to balance your academic responsibilities with self-care, nourish your body with healthy food, and build meaningful connections that support your overall well-being. The guidelines outlined in the link below are essential for making the most of your international experience.

Digital Security

When traveling internationally with electronic devices, it's crucial to take special precautions to protect both the devices and the sensitive information they contain. This applies whether you're accessing the internet or simply not in physical possession of your devices.

Mobile electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and cell phones are susceptible to malware and automated attack tools when taken abroad. Even with up-to-date security software, these devices might not fully resist such threats.

Some countries, including China, Israel, and Russia, have strict regulations regarding the importation and use of encryption tools. In some cases, cryptography tools may not be allowed at all, or a special license may be required.

LMU has compiled a set of guidelines to help you prepare for international travel. It's advisable to start these preparations several weeks before your departure.

Safety & Security

The safety and security of students, faculty, and staff traveling abroad are of utmost importance. To ensure a secure travel experience, LMU utilizes a range of resources to assess the safety of specific destinations, including:

  • U.S. Department of State travel advisories
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines
  • In-country program partners
  • Consultation with U.S. embassy and consulate security officers
  • Private security and intelligence providers
  • Risk assessments from peer institutions

In addition, we equip travelers with essential tools and resources to enhance their international experience, such as:

  • Access to emergency security, medical, and claims assistance through our international insurance carrier.
  • Registration with the U.S. State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
  • Subscription to timely security alerts.
  • International Travel Registry.

LMU’s policies and procedures are in place to protect the safety of LMU's international travelers. For programs in high-risk destinations, international travel and study abroad experiences require special review and approval. In certain circumstances, sponsorship may be withdrawn or programs may be canceled to prioritize participant safety.
