Town Hall Recordings and Updated FAQs

May 17, 2024

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

I deeply appreciate those of you who took the time to attend or watch the recent town halls about the non-tenure track (NTT) faculty union organization efforts. If you were unable to attend, I strongly encourage you to visit the Conversations website to view the recordings and/or the slides.

We've received numerous inquiries about the unionization process, election timing, and the implications for LMU. While we couldn't address all questions individually, we've compiled thematic responses and provided individual answers to unique queries. These can be found on the FAQ page of the Conversations website.

I remind you that LMU was obligated under federal law to provide the Regional Director for Region 31 of the National Labor Relations Board with a list of the full names, work locations, shifts, job classifications, and contact information (including home addresses, available personal email addresses, and available personal home and cellular telephone numbers) of the NTT faculty members who are eligible to vote in the election so the election ballots can be mailed directly eligible faculty. This information was submitted to the Regional Director and the SEIU on May 8 and eligible NTT faculty were informed via email by me on May 7.

It's important to remember that you have the right to decide whether or not you wish to receive a union representative at your home. Federal law protects your choice to engage or refrain from this activity. If you have questions about your rights, we encourage you to call the Region 31 office at (310) 235-7351.

I look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks. I hope that your scholarship, research, and creative pursuits are fruitful this summer and you’re finding the much-needed time to relax.

Sincerely,
Tom
