NTT Visiting Faculty Unionization Update
September 5, 2024
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I write to update you on the unionization efforts of our visiting non-tenure track (NTT) faculty. This is a separate collective bargaining unit from the NTT faculty group that voted to unionize in June.
Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 721, filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking an election to become certified as the representative of LMU’s visiting NTT faculty. On September 3, 2024, under the auspices of the Regional Director for Region 31 of the National Labor Relations Board, an independent federal agency responsible for enforcing the National Labor Relations Act, LMU entered into an agreement with Local 721 for the election of a bargaining unit consisting of visiting NTT faculty. Those eligible to vote are: all non-tenure-track visiting faculty, specifically those with the title of Visiting Professor (Assistant, Associate, and Professor), who are employed by LMU and who teach at least one credit-earning class, section, lesson, or lab within the LMU Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, the LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts, the LMU School of Film and Television, the LMU School of Education, the LMU College of Business Administration, and the LMU Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering.
Eligible visiting faculty have been informed, and an in-person election will be held on campus on Monday, September 16, 2024, and Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
I will share more information with you as it becomes available.
Sincerely,
Tom
