NTT Faculty Union Election Ballots Mailed Today
May 20, 2024
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I write to remind you that as a member of the non-tenure track faculty of the LMU Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, the LMU School of Film and Television, or the LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts, you will soon be eligible to vote in an election to determine whether Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 721, will be certified as the representative of the NTT faculty of these colleges and schools.
Your ballot will be mailed today to your home address. If you do not receive a ballot, you must notify the Region 31 Office of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) by Wednesday, May 29, 2024. The general telephone number for Region 31 is (310) 235-7351. We advise that you mail your ballots by Tuesday, June 4, 2024, to ensure they are received before the close of business on June 10, 2024. Remember, only those who vote will determine the outcome of this election.
As a reminder, you can review the sample ballot and the election instructions here.
The issue of union representation is of critical importance to every faculty member, as well as to the university as a whole. As we have advised throughout this campaign period, LMU leadership is not anti-union. We are pro-faculty. We value our capacity to address faculty concerns about their wages and other terms and conditions of employment on an individual and direct basis. Our direct interactions and the relational aspect of our culture are hallmarks of our university that we wish to preserve. We seek a “no” vote against unionization.
You may have questions about unionization, and I remind you that we have established a website to share information about union representation and the collective bargaining process.
I am proud of the great strides we have made together to enhance and improve the employment experience for LMU’s non-tenure track faculty, and I hope that we can continue to work together to provide a learning and working environment that aligns with our mission.
Sincerely,
Tom
