3.18.25 Visiting Professor Bargaining Session Summary
Loyola Marymount University and the Service Employees International Union Local 721 Visiting Professors bargaining unit held their first bargaining session today, marking the beginning of the collective bargaining process. The meeting began with a member of the Visiting Professor unit sharing an example of their personal experience at LMU as a Visiting Professor. This was followed by team introductions, providing an opportunity to establish a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration for the negotiations.
Proposals
The University team proposed ground rules and norms, explaining how these guidelines could facilitate a productive bargaining process. The Visiting Professors union team then presented 18 initial proposals for consideration, largely the same proposals as the Non-Tenure Track Faculty union presented during its collective bargaining meetings with the University, with some modifications, and one new proposal. No decisions were reached at this stage. The university team will begin reviewing these proposals.
In addition to the ground rules and norms, the University presented two additional proposals for consideration:
- Management Rights
- No Strike / No Lockout
Updates will continue to be shared on LMU’s Bargaining website as negotiations continue and we work together toward a contract that advances our collective efforts to provide a world-renowned education for our students.
