State Authorization
Loyola Marymount University is located in Los Angeles, California. According to Federal and State Regulations, institutions conducting educational activities outside of their home state must receive authorization, exemption, or license to conduct these activities. Educational activities include, but are not limited to: online courses, field experiences, practicums, internships, and clinical requirements. States hold the right to choose whether and how to regulate institutions within its borders.
As an institution in the state of California, the only state not part of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), state authorization is what allows Loyola Marymount University to enroll students outside of California into its online programs. In addition, adhering to federal regulations around state authorization and distance learning is tied to the university's participation in Federal Student Aid programs authorized under Title IV of the HEA.

State licensing boards and professional requirements may vary by state and can change at any time. LMU's licensure programs are designed and intended to prepare students who plan to be licensed in the state of California. For students who intend to practice outside of California, additional requirements might be required for licensure depending on the state. It is recommended that students contact program advisors to discuss their professional plans.
Federal regulations require institutions to provide professional licensure notifications and are tied to the institution's participation in Federal Student Aid programs authorized under Title IV of the HEA.
