With Gratitude and Hope: A Message from LMU’s 17th President

Dear LMU Community,

I am honored and humbled by the trust the LMU Board of Trustees has placed in me as I prepare to serve as the university’s 17th president. My heart is full of gratitude and excitement, and I carry with me a profound sense of responsibility and hope as we enter this new chapter together.

Throughout my time at LMU, I have seen firsthand the remarkable dedication, talent, and heart that define this community. I am eager to reintroduce myself, not just as a colleague, but as your next president, ready to listen, learn, and lead in partnership with you.

In the weeks and months ahead, I will be present and visible on our campuses and at our events as I reconnect with trustees, regents, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners. I want to hear your hopes and concerns directly, and I am committed to fostering spaces where dialogue thrives, your voices shape our direction, and our mission continues to grow with clarity and purpose.

Rooted in our Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount traditions, LMU is poised to move forward with boldness and unity. Together, let us reaffirm our commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, service, and the values that define us.

With gratitude and great enthusiasm for what lies ahead, I look forward to walking this journey with you — side by side.

With hope and resolve,

Thomas Poon, Ph.D. President-Elect
Professor of Chemistry
