Michael Peters

Message from the President
January 27, 2017

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share with you that Michael Peters, a junior screenwriting major, died Jan. 26, 2017, in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, of complications of kidney disease, while waiting for heart and kidney transplants. He was 20 years old.

When he was a first year student, Michael wrote movingly in the Los Angeles Loyolan about the organ donation he received when he was 5 weeks old. He was a passionate advocate for organ donation and how the generosity of one person can extend the life of another. Michael started at the Loyolan in spring 2015 as a digital intern and moved up to assistant digital editor in 2015-16.

Our community will remember Michael with a plaque bearing his name at our student memorial, Ad Astra per Aspera.

I thank Campus Ministry and our students who organized a prayer service on Thursday night in Sacred Heart Chapel. Michael’s funeral will be Monday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE 68154. A memorial Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel will be announced soon.

Please remember Michael, his family, and his friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
