Frederick "Fred" White

Message from the President

March 21, 2012

Dear LMU Community:

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Frederick “Fred” White Sr., who was a mechanic in Facilities Management since 2005. Fred died Sunday, March 18, at his home. He was 69 years old.

Prior to joining the LMU staff, Fred was a contractor who helped transition University Hall to academic purposes and then assisted in managing the building.  He was recognized in 2002 for his efforts to contain and mitigate a diesel fuel spill that jeopardized the delicate ecosystem around the campus. Fred prevented the fuel from entering a nearby storm drain.

He was much appreciated by his colleagues in Facilities Management for his skills as a mechanic and for his good nature and ready laugh.

Fred is survived by his son, Fred White Jr., his daughter Cheryl Thomas and her three children. A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 28, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 E. Florence Ave., Inglewood, CA 90301. The funeral will be Thursday, March 29, at 11:30 a.m. at Inglewood Park Cemetery.

Please keep Fred and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

David W. Burcham
President
