Fernando Moreno

Message from the President

Dec. 9, 2010

Dear LMU Community,

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of Fernando D. Moreno who was director of Campus Ministry from 1989 to 2005.  Fernando died in Marana, Arizona, of complications from heart surgery. He was 61 years old.

During his tenure, Fernando, who was the first lay person to lead the department, led the expansion of Campus Ministry to keep pace with growth and change in the university. He played an important role in fostering the university’s ethnic and religious diversity.

After retiring from LMU, Fernando moved to the Tucson area in 2006 to be close to his ailing brother, Bishop Manuel D. Moreno.

Rosary will be said and a memorial will be held Sunday, from 5-7 p.m., at Bring’s Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott Avenue in Tucson.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows, 1800 S. Kolb Road, Tucson. Fernando will be buried next to his brother. Condolence cards may be sent to his wife: Nora Moreno, 4640 W. Willow Bluff Drive, Marana, AZ 85658.

Please remember Fernando and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

David W. Burcham
President
